TANZANIA Ambassador’s Fund for HIV/AIDS Relief (AFHR)

1.1 Project Background and Description

The project will engage PLHIV networks, peer educators and health care providers as they are well positioned to re-engage patients in care and help them remain in care. The project will strengthen the existing PLHIV networks, build capacity of available peer educators to provide psychosocial support and peer education. They will also provide a forum for guidance and support to patients and help facilitate interactions between them and various components of the health care systems. The proposed project will contribute towards addressing barriers to client’s retention on ARV’s through capacitating PLHIV networks, peer educators and health care providers who will help patients maintain clinic visits and medication adherence.

1.2 Goals and Objectives

Goal:

To address barriers to client retention on ARVs by leveraging networks of PLHIV in Uvinza District, Kigoma region.

Objectives:

1. To identify and establish more Community ART refill points to facilitate access to services for hard to reach areas.

2. To develop and implement innovative evidence-based strategies to promote PLHIV networks commitment towards client’s retention in care and adherence to treatment

The project covers Uvinza district by supporting outreach refills from six (6) facilities and also the establishment of PLHIV support groups.
